FAQs

  1. Can you pay for the S-Bahn with Apple Pay?
We don't think so - credit cards should work but take cash just to be on the safe side.
  2. Do we all have to bring lifejackets?
We recommend that coxes wear lifejackets so maybe get one or two people per club to bring one and share them around.  The Germans tend not to wear them and there won't be any available at the club.
  3. Do we pay for our own lunch on Saturday?
Yes, we have not booked lunch on Saturday - we are aiming to arrive at a beer garden (see itinerary) but you are free to stop elsewhere if you wish and choose what you want to eat.  You may need cash as credit cards are not accepted everywhere.
  4. What is the dress code for the gala dinner?
Something elegant, but DJs and long dresses are not required!
  5. Are there locks to negotiate?
    No, no locks.  Very convenient!
  6. Do we have to bring rigger-jiggers?
Not essential, we will not need to rig and derig the boats.
  7. Do the boats have shoes or straps?
Straps, so you need to wear shoes in the boats.

Travelling around Potsdam

Berlin has 3 public transport zones, A, B and C
Potsdam main station (Hauptbahnhof) is in zone C
Berliner Ruder-Club is in zone B.

To get from the airport to Potsdam you need a ticket covering zones ABC, which costs EUR 4 for a single journey.  Take the S-Bahn S9 from the airport to Berlin Hauptbahnhof and then the S7 to Potsdam.  The regional train RB22 also goes to Potsdam but only once per hour.

To get from Potsdam Hauptbahnhof to the rowing club (on the S-Bahn S7)  you need a ticket covering zones BC, which costs EUR 3,80 for a single ticket or EUR 13,20 for a 4 journey ticket.

Remember to stamp (entwerten) the ticket before you get on the train, oltherwise it isn't valid and you may get fined.

More information (only in German) here.  Prices shown are for Zone AB tickets only - click on the links for other zones.
